Five Characteristics needed to Disput with the Credit Bureaus… By Nancy Tossell 1) Be informed. Honestly, the greatest threat to yourcredit is ignorance if you do not take the time to learn the facts of how bestto go about credit repair efforts. And simply deferring to a company thatclaims it can repair your credit for you is no excuse. In fact, there isnothing credit repair experts can do that you cannot do for yourself. We have awealth of comprehensive, yet easy-to-follow credit repair resources on what todo when, how and why. 2) Be bold. The first step in repairing your credit is todispute negative items on your report. Note: this is a process that shouldstart first with the credit bureaus – Experian, Transunion and Equifax. 3) Be organized. Credit bureaus have just 30 to 45 days torespond to your dispute. If they fail to respond within that allotted time, thenegative item must legally be removed. However, it is up to you to force theissue. That means keeping track of when you mailed the dispute letter and, moreimportantly, when they received it. (Thus the importance of sending dispute letters via certified mail with a return receipt requested.) 4) Be realistic. Even if you do everything right whenit comes to the credit repair process, remember that it takes time. 5) Be tenacious. Though the credit repair process is onethat you can most certainly tackle on your own, the commitment it takes canseem overwhelming. Don’t give up! Do yourself a favor and break down tasks intomanageable segments, be it an hour at a time, or 15 minutes at a time. . |
